John 6:70
Every church has people who have turned away from Christ. As much as we would want to think this is uncommon, it has never been that way. During Jesus’ ministry, there were many who followed Him.
This passage shows that who followed Christ at one point were now walking away from Him. They misunderstood his teaching as if He were promoting cannibalism. The passage says "They walked away in unbelief."
In vs. 64, Jesus pressed His followers to make a commitment. The same call to commitment is for us. We are to remain committed followers of Christ. Answers to the following two questions will reveal evidence that you don’t want to leave Christ?
- Are you in His word? vs. 58
- Are you committed to Christ? Many follow him out of nostalgia.
The following are clear indications that a person has become hardened against Christ:
- There is a polarization of the truth
- There is a perversion of truth
- Pretender of the truth
What does a true follower of Jesus look like? Consider the disciple Peter. He made a contemplative, heartfelt allegiance to God. vs. 69
